The students started off the day with reading buddies with Mr. Conte's grade five class. Students either read a book with their buddy or their buddy read a book to them.They had a lot of fun with their reading buddies!

Math
Today we learned about even and odd numbers. I made a chart to help them understand it better. I have drew two people, one named Steven and the other Todd (Its like even and odd LOL). I showed the students that Steven is even and everyone has a partner with even numbers. I wrote down all the numbers that are even (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 0) and showed the students how these numbers had a partner by drawing circles. Then we went on to Todd who is odd. I told them that not everyone has a partner in odd numbers. I told them that numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are all odd.
I explained to them to find out which numbers are even or odd they had to look in the ones place. I told the students that the ones place is always the last number. As an example, I put the number 35 on the board. I asked the class which is the last number in 35, 3 or 5. Once they figured out it was 5 i asked them is 5 a even or odd number. They looked at our chart and knew it was a odd number. I let them know that since we looked in the ones place, the last number, we found out that 35 is an odd number. I gave them a few more examples and we went on to our math workbooks.
Students had to colour even numbers red starting from 50 to 68 and colour odd numbers blue starting from 19 to 37 in their workbooks. Students also had to explain what pattern they saw in their numbers chart after they coloured the even and odd numbers.

Inquiry into Language
We learned about nouns today! I asked if they knew what a noun is. I told them a noun is a person, place, or thing. I wrote all three on the board and asked students to give me examples of them. When we finished that on the board, I split the class into teams. I told them we are going to play a game called Guess the Noun. I wrote a sentence on the board and the students had to discuss with their team who would go to the board. Once each team decided who would go to the board the student from each team would make their way to the board as fast as they can. Whoever got to the board first got to tell me where the noun was in the sentence. If they told me the noun and whether it was a person, place or thing they got a point! The team names were Transformers and Batman.
