Math
Today we worked on addition and subtraction in our workbooks. I wrote on the board 15+3 and asked the class how we could solve this. Some solved it in their head, some used fingers, and others used a number chart. We all looked at our number charts and asked the class what number would we start with? Someone said 15 and we all pointed to the number. Next I said to the class if we are adding 3 would we go forward or backward on the chart? Someone said backward. I let everyone know when they are adding on the numbers chart they move forward and when they are subtracting they move backwards. So as a class we moved forward 3 spaces. I asked the students what number they landed on and they said 18! The students continued to work on their workbooks. Some used mental math, some used their fingers, and some used the number chart. Students showed their understanding in various ways.
